Crawford has a player option. If at the seasons end we said to Crawford, " I'm sorry but could you take your player option because we would like to go in a different direction".
I assume at that point, Crawford would negotiate with other clubs to get at least as much as we were going to pay him. He'd probably be successful and we could free up salary cap. And if he wasn't successful. He'd force us to trade him or keep him. Is that the way it would work? War Years

Dont think it would unfortunately. He would have to be released and not under contract by us to be able to negotiate a deal with other teams..........so him "preparing" for whether he should/could decline his option to join another team wouldnt be able to happen. Your quote would never happen/work/be said to any NBA player, as I would imagine that the player would laugh in the face that said it..........no-one would give up guarenteed money to float on the free agent market. All we can do is TELL him he isnt part of our plans, and he should instruct his agent to find a trade.............but there is no way he would give up his final year in the hope that someone else would offer him similar money, just caused we asked nice. www.warriorsroundtable.com

Biggs, Thanks for your prompt response.
.........."no-one would give up guarenteed money to float on the free agent market. " Isn't that what Baron did? He gave up a guaranteed 17 million to negotiate in the free agent market with the Clippers.[/quote] War Years

No worries man............your question is about the most interesting thing Ive read here for months. Anyway, Baron...............well, he "negotiated" with the Clips under the table, ie: when he wasnt allowed to do so. Thats why the opt out came as such a shock, and also why it was not announced that Baron was "negotiating" with the Clips and why there were no rumours of it happening.............because it shouldnt have been but obviously did. Im sure lots of players do actually do this, and so your scenario with Crawford would probably work if he accepted it..........but the official line is that free agents are only allowed to negotiate with other teams when they are declared restricted, un-restricted or an actual free agent without a team, all within the free agent negotiating time period (although Im not sure when exactly this is but its declared and made public) So finally, Crawford only has a player option at the end of this year, he is not going to be an un-restricted or restricted free agent, so no official negotiating with other teams can take place...........unfortunately. www.warriorsroundtable.com

Jesus...........looking at this again, we are committed to 60 plus million for the next 2 years, after this one.
And thats without re-signing C.J and Morrow, which they should do, and without adding the un-doutedly high lottery picks we are going to get, who in turn will be on high rookie scale contracts. So, C.J is going to expect atleast 2-3 mil, Morrow the same............sorry but there is no way Crawford is walking away from 10 mil per season...........adding in 2 top 10 rookie contracts............we are basically comitted to atleast 65 million for the next 3 years. www.warriorsroundtable.com

Morrow can't expect 2-3 million. If he does that, he can leave. Sorry, but I wouldn't pay a guy that much just to shoot. I mean, he has stroke and is probably our best pure shooter, maybe even the best after Ray Allen, but still. He has no handles and plays no defense. I'd give him something around a million. The problem will be Wright and Randolph. Once their rookie contracts expire, it's going to be tough to commit money to them if we hardly have any. Still... as long as we have Bird Years, we'll be fine. But I'd hate to be in salary cap hell. Don't hate yourself in the morning... sleep 'til noon.

I've been away from the site for a while now (didn't have internet at my new place) and I'm just now revisiting this thread. I like what you did with the table bada, it looks good and it's easy to understand.
I'd really like to see us bring this team back next year without the players that are signed for next season- with the exception of CJ. I doubt we'll find a better backup point guard without dealing something. We should look for a decent backup center, with how inconsistent beans' health has been this year. I really hope Crawford sticks around. This to me, is a difficult situation to predict given that Crawford could probably get more money and get signed to a long term deal with a better team. He could definitely improve a lesser team or make an impact on an already good team. It will be interesting to see what happens. I was looking forward to next season, but after seeing who all is potentially coming back, I can't wait. If we stay healthy we should be able to secure a playoff seed. |

JReed, come one man.............are you serious? You really want to see this disfunctional bunch of tweener, ball hog, chucker, fundamentally flawed sh*t bags play together for another year??? I mean sh*t, Nelson has already said that Crawford is a waste of space, and especially when pared with Monta, so one of them is definately going this off season (think about it, if Nelson cant make 2 scoring guards work together then who can?) Maggs is obsolete right now, and should have left when we were shopping him mid-season (says alot about how much faith they have in him right? when a couple of months after signing him for 5 years, they want him gone) I literally cant watch this team right now...........whether we win/lose/play competively.............I cant stand this group, it makes me feel sick to see Jackson doing what he does, it makes me sick to see Crawford as a Warrior and it makes me sick to see Maggs grind everything to a halt. I want those 3 gone as much as I want Nelson gone...........Id even take those 3 going AHEAD of Nelson (and if you know how much I loathe Nelson then you know thats alot) F*ck this team, f*ck Nelson.............because if there are no changes, and Nelson is still here, then we will be getting into another double digit no-playoff streak. www.warriorsroundtable.com

This isn't related to the salary cap, but I thought I'd ask this here instead of creating a thread for it. Is it true that the team will lose its draft pick if it is 4, 5 or 6?

From which deal? If you mean the Williams from New Jersey one, then that pick was lottery protected (although, it depends on how high it was protected)..........so as long as we are in the lottery then they dont get it. Other than that, I cant remember any of our deals including us losing an important pick we may have, they are always protected.........can you imagine if we got a high one, then had to hand it over to NJ because of a deal we made with them for a player who played less than 10 games and was waived mid-season? www.warriorsroundtable.com

i would be disgusted... just the thought of that makes me feel ill... Wish List
*New Owner and Management =D> *Trade Monta *Trade Maggette =D> *Tank the season, get the top pick and draft Harrison Barnes to be continued... |
|
I had read on an nba website about that and just wanted to know if anyone here could confirm that or disprove it. It would be awful if that was the case and I thought that it wasn't, so the draft pick is ours to keep, unless it is traded ofcourse

Yeah, most of the blurb about the deal just said "conditional first round pick"............but I believe its a lottery protected pick in 2011, although I think Bada found the official line on the deal. Either way, its going to be protected, as there is no way they would be stupid enough to trade what could be a great pick for a player we never even gave a chance too. *EDIT* - Ahh, here it is = http://www.nj.com/nets/index.ssf/2008/0 ... ams_t.html
I think its safe to say that NJ will end up with the two 2nd rounders.........because I cant see us being out of the Top 10 lottery picks by 2013. www.warriorsroundtable.com
