Warriors Sign Four Free Agents
Roster Now Stands At 17 Players


The Golden State Warriors have signed free agent guards Aaron Miles and Ray Young, free agent forward Justin Davis and free agent center Deji Akindele (pronounced DAY-jah AH-kin-DELL), Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Mullin announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deals were not announced.

Miles
Miles, 22, played the last four seasons at the University of Kansas, finishing his collegiate career ranked eighth on the NCAA’s all-time assist list with 954 total assists. The 6-4 guard averaged 9.3 points and 7.2 assists per game in 2004-05 as a senior.

Young, 25, was a member of the Warriors’ 2005 Summer League team, where the UCLA product averaged 7.8 points per contest in four games. The 6-4 guard is a native of Oakland and attended St. Joseph’s Notre Dame High School in Alameda.

Davis, 24, played four seasons at Stanford under Warriors head coach Mike Montgomery. As a senior in 2003-04, the 6-9 center averaged 10.9 points and 6.6 rebounds while helping lead the Cardinal to a 30-2 record. Davis, a Berkeley native who also attended St. Joseph’s Notre Dame High School in Alameda, played professionally this past season in Greece.

Akindele, 22, is a 7-1 center who played two seasons at Chicago State and became the school’s all-time leading shot blocker despite leaving after his sophomore campaign. In 2004-05 he averaged 12.0 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.50 blocked shots per contest.

Golden State’s roster now totals 17 players.

Hmmm... aside from Akindele (who brings size, along with his shot blocking ability), the group seems like a bunch of space fillers on the practice squad. Who knows, though. I've never heard of any of them.

Too many guys already on the team. These guys are just injured reserves and practise partners.

Yeah, I was gonna say that Miles sounds promising, too... but not behind Baron Davis, Derek Fisher, and Monta Ellis. Being the #4 point guard isn't gonna get you many minutes.

well the league is tryin to promote the upgraded and updated minor league so each team is going to have plenty of guys that wont see many minutes unless injuries allow them too.

Im lookin foward to seeing ray young play though.

I dunno if Ray's gonna get many minutes, either. He did well in the Summer League... but who knows how that translates to the actual NBA. He could be a great off-the-bench player, he could be a nobody. And having to wait behind Jason Richardson & Mickael Pietrus will be tough, too.

The warriors can only have 15 players on the roster, 2 of these guys (or more) are gonna get cut. The others that don't will prolly be in the nbdl. Not a bad idea, Akindele may get better in the nbdl then the warriors can call him up to the nba.

I predict Davis and Young get cut because Miles is the best player out of all of them and Alkindele brings size (that they dont have)
