All-around? That's the tough one...

This thead is dead and that new one started by TMC should do well like the Cheerleaders thread but I'm just wondering....
Which would you prefer? Drafting Greg Oden or making the 2007 playoffs? |

oden

Oden for sure. It's more important to build a contender than making the playoffs one time. |

Playoffs! It is so desperately needed by the city and the fans! Their enough young guys here to be a very good team and that wil attract good players here ![]() ![]() migya make the ring fall on ya |

1.- You'd rather make the playoffs as an 7-8th seed than drafting one of the few legit big men that can turn a team around? 2.- How would make the playoffs attract good players to a team that has no money to spend? |

Getting Oden would mean other guys would have to go, to make toom for him next season and/or in 3 or 4 years time to sign him. Biedrins, Ellis and Diogu have shown that they have the capability to be starters and very good contributors and they will only get better from what they are now. This will make the team a top 4 or 5 team at least withing 3 or 4 years.
Deals are always done when very good players want to go to a team, be it dealing draft picks or even over paid players along with draft picks ![]() ![]() migya make the ring fall on ya |

I say playoffs because there is no way the Ws will have a record poor enough to have a plausible shot at Oden. I agree that with Ellis, Biedrins, Ike plus Baron, JRich, Barnes and Pietrus, the Ws are a piece away from being a real contender (assuming they can move Murphy and buy out Foyle). They will finish with anywhere from 41 to 47 wins, so not remotely in the thick of the Oden chase.

But this is not about our record. Just a game. You have a chance to pick one thing, that will happen for sure, but not the other... Oden or playoffs? |
|
And that's with all the injuries that have happened! The team is real good this season and it looks real promising for when JRich is healthy and the team has every player available, if it does happen at all this season ![]() ![]() migya make the ring fall on ya |

o.k. - so the hypothetical question is: The Ws are guaranteed Greg Oden if they don't make the playoffs? I haven't seen Oden play enough to make an informed comment. The hype is enormous -right now he is averaging 14 points and 8 boards per game...sorry, not enough info to make even an informed guess... To Live is A Value Judgment - Albert Camus

WITH HIS LEFT HAND!!!! But your right the hype is huge and his performance against the gators was far from stellar. I would have to take Oden over the playoffs though, we have waited 12 years 1 more wouldnt be that bad seeing as we would contend for it all with Oden. |
Yep. I haven't seen Oden play lately, but he's supposedly coming back from injury... It will take some time before we can make a honest assesment of him. But all his coaches seem to be sure he's one of a kind talent. Someone that can turn a team around by himself. There must be something if everybody agrees. |
