I will say that I know that many gays have adopted the F-word and appreciate anti-gay jokes as hilarous thus taking the power out of them. I am not saying that the same thing has happened to the N-word (or that it should) but it is a tactic used successfully in the past to steal someone's thunder. Another example is the skinhead look being adopted by non-nazi groups. I am sure there are black people that are socially conscious about using the N-word. Aaron McGruder and Dave Chapelle are examples and I don't think anyone would accuse them of not being aware of its undertones.

Some people just get into the "it's so big it's like a dynasty" mentality and don't see through it.

The N word, as it is put, is not socially acceptable but neither is words like arsehole and shiithed, though looked on as more extreme
