So we move him to bench?, because Ike should be our starter, and I can't see Murph playing center. Also, we have a need at SF, and Murph has enough trade value to get one. |

But such a SF would have to be an already established player, otherwise another "potentially" great player could be a bust here

Josh Smith is a "potentially" great player... and the only thing he's established in the NBA is a Slam Dunk Championship.

Look at Dunleavy's last month in the 2004-'05 season! The final month & a half mean nothing! Despite those all-star worthy performances, his seasonal averages still curved out to 11 points, 2 assists (yes, Josh Smith)! His only proven ability is shot-blocking... aside from that, he's still a prospect.

Josh Smith is a far better player than Dunleavy and I'm sure everyone on here would rather have him over dunnyboy but the stats for both are not much different:
Josh Smith = 11.3pts, 6.6rbs, 2.4ast Mike Dunleavy = 11.5pts, 4.9rbs, 2.9ast Conclusion: Stats mean nothing here! migya make the ring fall on ya |

Exactly. Stat's mean nothing. So the last "month and a half" of Josh Smith's stats were nothing more than a Dunleavy-like hot streak.
If Josh Smith were an accomplished player already, the Hawks would have resigned him to a contract extension. Instead, they're going to wait until he's done with his final year (like we are with Pietrus) to evaluate... or possibly trade (depending on the offer). A solid, consistent 15 & 10 (who could probably turn into a 18 & 10 with more touches) sounds like a good offer. GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS DIE HARD |

If you have seen Josh Smith play, you'll know that he is future star! Dunleavy does not look as such and at best is a very good role player (AT BEST!). The defense is what I'm most interested in with Josh Smith

I've seen him play. He shows flashes of being a future star (more than Pietrus or Dunleavy... but, still, they're only flashes, at this point). His play is still sporadic. Atlanta will probably want to hang onto him unless they get a bargain in return. Troy Murphy (a possible 18 & 10 whose contract is average to high) is a damn good offer. When you throw in Pietrus, it becomes a bargain.
