I know, but doesn't mean I am wrong =)

Barnes is more athletic, and has a slight height advatage and wingspan advantage (will come in handy rebounding and blocking shots).
Ok, so that only speaks for potential. If you compare what the did in College:
Harrison Barnes
SEASON TEAM MIN FGM-FGA FG% 3PM-3PA 3P% FTM-FTA FT% REB AST BLK STL PF TO PTS
2011-12 UNC 29.2 6.0-13.7 .440 1.3-3.6 .358 3.7-5.1 .723 5.2 1.1 0.3 1.1 1.8 1.9 17.1
Kidd-Gilchrist

2011-12 UK 31.1 4.0-8.2 .491 0.3-1.3 .255 3.6-4.8 .745 7.4 1.9 0.9 1.0 2.4 2.2 11.9
Barnes was a better scorer and shooter. Kidd Gilchrist was slightly better rebounder and shot blocker, but neither really stood out.
You also got to take into account that Kidd-Gilchrist was on a way better team.
Barnes: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/51385/harrison-barnes
Kidd-Gilchrist: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/56352/michael-kidd-gilchrist
At the end, I think they are both good picks, but I give the slight advantage to Barnes.
Oh, and while looking up the stats I found a poll on NBADRAFT.NET that shows I am not the only one who thinks this:
Who is the top small forward prospect available for the draft this year?
Harrison Barnes
51%
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
