Mota hasn't been playing too well. I am sure he will appeal it. Still, the Bay Area has ANOTHER player in trouble with drugs.

Mota (Giants), Eliezer Alfonzo (former Giant), and Manny Ramirez (now with A's) are the only 3 players to ever get suspended for 100 games under this policy.
Tolbert downplayed the significance of this, but Guillermo Mota is a huge loss. He was their long reliever and their spot-starter in the pen. He could come in to start an inning or to diffuse a men-on-base situation. Unlike Romo or Lopez, Mota could pitch to guys hitting from either side. Huge blow.
Especially since (with Wilson out) you've already lost Casilla from his 7th inning role and the arguable set-up man in Jeremy Affeldt. If the Giants knew this was going to happen, I doubt they'd have traded Ramirez over the offseason.
And if THAT's not enough, you're missing Huff, Sandoval, and F. Sanchez at the dish. Man, it's like last year all over again. I'm about to start a "Fire Groeschner" thread...

I dont think Freddy Sanchez will be back this year, as a matter of fact, I think he is done. We should see Pablo in about a month, which is great seeing how the Melk man and Posey is really starting to light up this squad.
Timmy had a nice start for a change last night. Still a little wild but his break was electric! Too bad we could get him a some run support... It'd be nice to get Panda and Freddy back around the same time to make a push for the division.

He's clobbering sh*t all over right now.
Melky is the best non-pitcher to wear a Giants uniform in the POst Bonds era... I only needed 2 months to confirm... he is the man.
Pagan was a great addition as well.

Man, and I ROASTED Sabes before the season over those 2. I had no idea either man would be so valuable!

Really? I was excited about picking up Melky. Last season when I heard we picked up a Cabrera, I was hoping it was him. No way we let him walk, someone will need to be sacrificed to sign him though. Posey is still our best player and when Panda is swinging the bat well he is our most valuable hitter because of the average and power, but it's a scary thought to think of where we'd be right now without Melky.
SO glad we secured Cain... what a great season (and now he has experienced perfection). And seems like a great guy. Also, really glad we dont have lincicum on a long term deal after the terrible season he is having.
Yeah it seems like we've experienced some good fortune, maybe it's baseball karma after the horrible contract situations we've had to endure over the past 5 or so seasons - Zito, Rowand, Huff, etc. Now we have guys like Cain and Madbum locked down and because of Timmy's unwillingness to sign a long term deal, we'll get him on the cheap and be able to extend guys like Melky.
