The Milwaukee Bucks acquired small forward Corey Maggette(notes) this offseason from the Golden State Warriors to compete with Carlos Delfino(notes) for the starting spot, but it looks like the race is over before it even began.

Maggette tells the Journal Times that he might miss the entire preseason because of a slow recovery from surgery to repair torn peroneal tendons in his ankle in July.

The paper reports that Bucks execs had planned to "bring Maggette along slowly" in camp but the player says he can't do a whole lot.

"I can do some things but not of the caliber I'm used to," Maggette told reporters. "It's going to be a slow process."

Maggette averaged 19.8 points a game last season.

Well, I have no hard feelings for him... and I kinda like Milwaukee in a odd kind of way (they always seem to a crappy team, so i am rooting for them in the east this year to rise up).
