I think as you disconnect from the music, you sort of think that it's dead. I used to listen to a lot of rap growing up and through my twenties. But i just feel the need to go searching for good rap anymore. When i listen is mostly to the older stuff, and now i like more rock than anything. But i know there is a lot of good rap out there. It's a great platform, and the good ones aren't the ones on the radio usually.

Yup, been listening to J.Cole for a min now - see my post in the music thread. I fail to see any comparison to Jay Z though, J.cole harmonizes and sings - Jay Z doesn't - 2 completely different brands of hip hip, both still good none the less. |

Jacka's tight but I wouldn't consider most of what he does as rap... Maybe that's just from what I've heard though. |

I met Too $hort once... Recognized him by his bald head.

J Cole is real nice. It's prolly his album im looking forward to most this year
There's a lot of great hip hop out there but as someone said, you have to hunt for it as there's so much garbage as far as west coast stuff, i still think Crooked I is king. Man that dude is sick

I listen to a lot of hip hop for my yob.
Prior to that, my exposure to it was what I knew from high school: PE, KRS one, Snoop, NWA,Tribe called quest, De la Soul, I dug some of the Guru stuff too. Mos Def later on. I found out I like backpacker, and hate dirdy south and gangster rap. I don't mind battle rap as long as it is creative or funny. But it's got to be either a super funky track, superior rhyming rhythm skills, or creative as hell for me to like it. Dialated Peoples and Gift of Gab are pretty cool. The "pose" gets old. I'll destroy all you cookie cutter mc's!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3pIsA0Q ... re=related

I'm in a similar position to you with Rap Pat. There has to be a nice groove to listen too, that's why i like outkasts stuff a lot, especially ATLiens and Aquemini. The Roots got some nice funk. The shake ya ass beats and the hard gangster beats don't always do it for me. Nickatina has always had some good beats too. I've heard a lot about Jacka, but don't really listen to him at all. I used to listen to Mac Mall back when he was good, Khayree used to have some serious instrumentals in his beats. ![]() |
