For a complete change of pace, have any of you ever heard of Vox Tempus?
They're a prog rock band in the mold of Dream Theater, only they're centered around singer Dan Reed whereas Dream Theater's singer is probably holding them back... Check out "Broken" and "Revelations" on last.fm: link |

You guys have pretty good taste in hip-hop here it looks like. However, nobody has mentioned Diverse....he is THE best emcee that you have never heard of...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdFqmrzYMzg (the Asian dude is Lyrics Born aka Asia Born). Not my favorite one of hi songs but the first one that came up on YouTube... Also, probably the most productive underground artist right now is Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of El-Paso, Texas. You might have heard of his band the Mars Volta but he releases about 6-7 solo records per year. IMO he is one of the most creative composers and guitarists out there right now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qVUSXeRz2s |

Also if we are going to jazz....Ornette Coleman's "the Shape of Jazz to Come" is a landmark record. Paved the way for Free Jazz.
Also IMO the best Miles Davis albums are Bitches Brew and Kind of Blue. John Coltrane deserves and honorable mention here even though he is hardly under the radar. |

Good to see a Jazz fan! Ornette is one of my favorites! Joe Henderson and Larry Young's Unity album are amazing!
