The title is self explanatory. This thread is strictly about famous hip-hop songs that were sampled from classic songs.
I created this for fun and because I wanted to make a CD full of classic tracks that became sampled by hip-hop artists.

first song I thought of, Classic by Hieroglyphics, but that's actual classical music which you probably aren't interested in (plus that songs not all that great).
The Light by Common / orig. "open your eyes" by bobby caldwell (pretty tight track as well) Jay Z and Danger Mouse - What more can I say (the gray album) Georgia by Ludacris (orig. Georgia on my mind by Ray Charles) San Francisco Knights by people under the stairs Acid Raindrops by People under the stairs eclectic method made a pretty cool mix of Gold digger (kanye west) and the original Ray charles song - I got a woman. you can listen to it here http://www.eclecticmethod.net/video/streaming-video/golddigger-ray-charles-vs-kanye-west-vs-jamie-fox/ (first min 30 kinda sux) Mas que nada by Sergio Mendes feat the black eyed peas (orig mas que nada by sergio mendes). the BEPeas lyrics are kinda stupid, but the beat is sick. Canto de Ossanha by Jurassic 5 (well just their DJ's Cut Chemist and Nu-mark). AWESOME track! prob listened to it a 100 times! if you listen to the original (same title by Baden Powel) you'll see why it's so cool - they use pretty much every part of the original song, but they mash it up to make it more hip hop'y and it just sounds great. lastly, one of my favorites, just because the intro is so cool, "thin line" by Cut Chemist feat Jurassic 5 and Nelly Furtado. he starts off with the whole classic track, then breaks it down to just the original song's bass line. definitley worth a listen. |
