Knicks Making Moves For Warriors' Randolph?

Posted: 2/12/2009 3:29:00 AM
Source: Frank Isola of the New York Daily News

Donnie Walsh and Glen Grunwald were watching intently as Golden State's Anthony Randolph went through his pregame drills early Tuesday in Oakland. Hours later, Walsh was huddling with Bill Duffy, Randolph's soon-to-be agent.

What happened in between watching Randolph and talking to Duffy was both alarming and eye-opening to the Knicks president and his top lieutenant; the Knicks surrendered an NBA season-high 144 points to the Warriors and lost their fifth straight game. Randolph, the highly sought-after rookie forward finished with 12 points and seven rebounds in 14 minutes.

Walsh is committed to giving the franchise salary-cap flexibility for the free agent class of 2010. But he's also committed to trying to reach the playoffs this season while building a team that would be attractive to future free agents LeBron James, Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh.

With the trading deadline set for next Thursday, Walsh has only a few more days to upgrade the roster. Stephon Marbury's expiring contract could be an important trading chip. With David Lee and Nate Robinson both set to become restricted free agents in July, Walsh may look to trade one of his youngest players.

Randolph is on the Knicks' radar, but there is no guarantee that the Warriors will trade the first-year forward. Randolph's name has already been mentioned in trade talks with the Phoenix Suns for Amare Stoudemire and with Toronto for Bosh.

Walsh may have to address his backcourt situation with Chris Duhon being forced to miss Wednesday night's game against the Clippers with a sprained left ankle. Duhon will receive additional tests when he returns to New York this week.

The decision to exile Marbury left the Knicks with only one pure point guard. Robinson is more of a scoring guard, who doesn't run the pick-and-roll with Lee nearly as effectively as Duhon.

If Duhon is forced out of the lineup for an extended period of time, the Knicks would have to add a point guard if they had any hopes of reaching the playoffs.

If the team can't land one of Amare/Bosh/Boozer, having to use Randolph to get him, I'd take Lee, even Marbury's expirer, throwing Crawford back to them to make salaries work

I don't want anything from the Knicks. Lee is good, but Randolph will be better. I'd much rather ship Maggette than Crawford

I would not touch AR for no one on the Knicks, the athleticism, the Length, the defense is nothing to let go, give the kid some time. I watched the last couple of games and AR has earned his playing time. I would much rather part with B-Wright than AR.

i definitely understand your point, but i mean think about it....lee next to biedrins starting, with wright and turiaf coming off the bench. rebounding galore followed by a block party. switch wright and lee and you got length followed by energy.

Biedrins is debatable... but you wouldn't trade Turiaf for Lee?. Seriously?
