I agree, the electric Miles is incredible...just thinking about who came out of that: Zawinul, Keith, Dejohnette, Mclaughlin, Liebman, Chick, Bennie Maupin, Dave Holland...
yeah, I've been lucky - have played some with Lieb, too. Damn, that is some badass motherfucking playing by Joe Hen and Freddie...RIP, Freddie..funny to see Ron Carter with the suit and tie. Friends of mine have worked with him...not the nicest cat you will ever meet. Herbie, on the other hand, is a completely cool hang.

Funny, I called Ron Carter's publishing company about ten years ago when I did my first cd. I wanted to cover "First Trip" which was on Herbie's "Like a Child" album, so it was RC's tune. He wrote it about his son coming home from school and being so happy that he behaved well and got to go to the bathroom on the first trip!.. anyway. I called RC's publishing company number, and HE picks up the phone. He basically asked me, "how many CD's are you printing?" I said a thousand. He said, "When you sell ten thousand, send me a check" He wished me luck and that was that. He was cordial enough but official and to the point.
The way I look at it, he saved me a big hassle.

Yeah, I've met very few virtuoso types that are not either particularly moody at the very least or out right lunatics in a social 'get a long with people' sense. Nature of the biz were are in I suppose.
He strikes me as very professorial, probably not going to be all friendly and shake your hand, even if you can play.
