obviously Minnesota gets a lot more then they are giving up but why would they want wright when they already have love and Al unless they are planning to play Wright at small forward? Hope this goes down tho.
Basketball would be depressing without the warriors

Dumb trade rumor. From Atlanta's perspective. They'd be trading their second best player for a draft pick and an expiring contract? Unless they have a serious hard-on for someone in next years draft, I don't see why they wouldn't just deal with GS directly.

B.Wright/Marco/Al for Smith. Maybe they wanted a draft pick too and the warriors wouldn't give in.

I also doubt the warriors would get both Carney and McCants. I think one of them would go to ATL

I was looking for the source of this rumor and ran across this:

http://www.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic. ... efae72f354

An 'insider' on the Warriors board claims that a Brandan Wright/Marco Bellineli/Al Harrington trade for Josh Smith is close to being done.

With regard to viability of the rumored trade:

E-Man wrote:Atlanta gets: Al Harrington, Marco Belinelli

Minnesota gets: Brandan Wright, ATL future first round pick

GSW gets: Josh Smith, Rashad McCants

This deal makes sense for the Warriors and Minnesota. I don't see how it makes sense for Atlanta. Basically, for them it's Josh Smith + 1st round draft pick = Al Harrington + Marco Belinelli. That makes no sense. Now, if Wright was going to Atlanta instead of Minnesota, then I can see this thing going down.

i actually changed it after Cap gave a link to the exact same trade in talk on a timberwolves forum

E-Man wrote:atl gets: harrington and minny's first rounder

makes more sense. harrington was good in atlanta, and would still be good there. he'd be in a place where he can use all of his tools instead of his 3pt shooting. when he was in atlanta the first tim, he was a low post machine and scored almost at will while rebounding about 7 a game if i remember coreectly. theyd also get a first rounder from minnesota which they could use considering they didnt even draft this year.

minnesota gets wright and belinelli. wright could back up jefferson or love and be a complimentary defensive piece tom either one of those guys. a projected number 3 pick before in a draft behind oden and durant. and belinelli, a lights out shooter that would get more time to prove himself in minny than he would here.

then we get smith and mccants...need i say more?

I would love to have Josh Smith, but am I the only one who thinks Wright, Belli and Al is too much to give up for Smith? I don't know, just seems like a lot. That being said, if he came my wonders about Wright and Belli reaching their top potential would be soothed by the fact that we would dominate.

BW Al And Belli is a lot in my opinion for Smith... but if that what it takes to get him then i would do it. Basically an expiring contract and 2 1st round picks from 07 for Smith... If you equate the players so far such as BW still developing and belli still struggling to become consistant with PT and his shot... then yes i would do the trade... but if you factor AL, then the 8th and 18th pick in the draft then i would say no. I hope i make sense

Cap posted a link to a minny forum that was talking about the same trade only it had minny giving mccants and picks while atl only gave up smith. i think it actually makes more sense...

atl gets: harrington and minny's first rounder
minny gets: wright and belinelli
warriors get: josh smith and mccants

I think Minnesota would also have to give Carney, as well as McCants and one future 1st rounder (if it is THEIR one) or two future 1st rounders (if it is Boston's and Utah's that they are getting).

I am intrigued by the potential of BWright but JSmith is already there in the fact that he has shown he is an allstar caliber player if not superstar caliber. Belinelli has not done anything special but his summer league play has given him value. McCants is somewhat a headcase but in limited minutes last season he produced very well, though he is a turnover machine.

I'm all for this trade and can actually see all teams involved doing it. The TWolves would really solidify their frontline with very talented young bigs that could be there for at least another ten years if they wanted. Belinelli could actually do well there as he would likely get alot of open outside shots and more playing time than he did here. Hawks get Harrington, who was very good there the last ime he was there, but I don't know why they would want him back as they didn't have much success with him as far as wins, and likely Carney, as well as the mentioned 1st round pick or picks. The Hawks are the ones in the weakest position as they are the ones with the seemingly disenchanted player (as it has been stated that JSmith and their coach Woodsen don't like eachother one bit).

JSmith is 6'9 and that is a good height for PF, while also playing some SF if needed. He is a great defender, to me top 5 in the nba, and does pretty much everything very well. He is a great athlete that would fit the team real well and that is the key, him fitting with the run and gun style. He is not that strong though and would probably not have be a good matchup against the likes of Garnett and Duncan but he is a great defender so maybe he can hold his own.

I'm wondering about the salary he will get, I'm expecting five years at an average of 13 million at least, maybe the maximum for his years of nba experience which I'm not sure what figure that is. With Biedrins likely getting a contract like what Monta did, that would give four of the five starters (and the only four on the team ofcourse) to have salaries of over 10 million a year, possibly 45 million for Maggette, Biedrins, Monta and JSmith. That's about 53 million on the starting five alone and I know the bench guys are only making something like a combined 10-12 million, but the starting five would be close to the highest paid in the nba, though one of the most talented as well.

I'd go for this trade and it would likely make the team, barring major injury to one of the starters, a definate playoff caliber one, if not top 4 West team

HOLY SMOKES.

Why Warriors fans should want this trade, even though we're giving up BWright and Monta:

Starting 5:

Monta
Maggs
SJax
Smith
Beans

The major question is whether or not Monta can run the point, but guess what? We have one of the best, if not the best, coaches in the league for developing the scoring PG.

Second, the future. We have Monta and Beans for six years, and I'm guessing Smith would garner a six year deal. We have Maggs for five. We only have SJax for two more years, but our brightest unproven talent, Randolph, is expected to play his position. Perfect.

Third, the bench. Wouldn't be as good without BWright and Marco, but... Williams at the point, Buike and McCants at the two, Randolph (and whoever else Nellie likes) at the three, and Ronnie at the five? Not really sure who our next four would be, but Nelson probably does.

BWright and Marco might turn out to be studs in this league, but this trade is awesome. If we pull this off I'm going to buy myself a brand new HiDef TV and start calling my cable provider for the NBA ticket starting tomorrow. =D

EDIT: And for the record, I know this deal is a rumor and probably isn't happening. BUT it's far more fun to think about than the 9-5 I'm going to be late to because I'm reading goldenstwarriors.com instead of eating breakfast.

Here's part of a Chad Ford feature, which in my mind makes this rumon more realistic if true:

1. Josh Smith, Hawks: Smith drew a lot of interest from the Sixers, Clippers and Warriors. However, now that all three teams are out of cap space, he's stuck in the same boat with everyone else. He's a freakish athlete who can score, rebound and block shots. What holds him back is his questionable attitude.

Right now Smith is pushing for a sign-and-trade out of Atlanta. It sounds like the Hawks might be open to such a move, but sign-and-trades are notoriously difficult to pull off.

Three reasons why the Warriors could pull this off:

1) They have young, cheap talent that the Hawks or any third team in a 3-way trade would want.

2) Josh Smith doesn't want to play for the Hawks.

3) The Hawks don't want to pay Josh Smith.

With that said, I still think this is all unlikely, but hey, stranger things have happened. If the Lakers can get Gasol and the Clippers can get Camby why can't we get Josh Smith?

yea i would look at it that way... i mean all the impossible seemed possible this offseason haha, plus the lakers addition of gasol. If the clips can get camby for a 2nd rnd pick and lakers getting gasol for kwame and 1st rounders why cant we get a player like smith for say a shitty return for the hawks
