Foul shooting off mark in first two games

Warriors guard Derek Fisher watched the team make just five of its first 11 free-throw attempts Friday. Then Fisher scored on a driving layup, drawing a foul in the process. But Fisher, who shot 86.2 percent from the line last season, bricked the free throw.

``The crazy part is,'' Fisher said before the game against Utah, ``I had just told'' rookie guards Aaron Miles and Monta Ellis ``that free-throw shooting is contagious.''

The most glaring weakness in the Warriors' victory over Atlanta on Wednesday was their comical free-throw shooting. The Warriors -- 27th in the NBA in free-throw percentage (72.2) and free-throw attempts (1,995) last season -- were 29 for 45 (64.4 percent) from the line Wednesday. The number of attempts marked an improvement and was proof of a more aggressive offense.

The Warriors missed 10 of their first 20 free throws Friday and finished 22 of 38 (57.9 percent). They could have had a seven-point possession but missed three free throws on one trip late in the second quarter.

``One of the most frustrating things is you come down, run your offense, get a good shot and then you get to the line and not make it,'' Coach Mike Montgomery said.

• Rookie forward Ike Diogu (broken left hand) and second-year forward/center Andris Biedrins (sprained right ankle) were placed on the inactive list before Friday's game. Ellis was activated.

The new collective bargaining agreement brought a change in how teams can designate their roster. The ``injury list'' -- which teams could use to stash players -- has been replaced by the ``inactive list.'' Previously, putting a player on the injured list meant teams had to disclose the injury and the player had to miss at least five games.

On the new inactive list, teams don't have to give a reason and there is no minimum time the players have to spend on the list.
