Nice one Sleandres! I love Demitri too!!!
Im gonna bust out some great Brits or guys who were popular in England..............plus my favs, as most are American though.
Here is the order =
1 - Bill Hicks
The ultimate comedian..........incredibly intelligent, impecable timing, limitless energy and passion, turns the most important issues in the world into comedy (and was one of the first to do so)............and generally lovely man..........died way too young of pancreatic cancer.............Dennis Leary stole pretty much his entire act.
Trust me!!!............watch all of these then look up more............youll love him.
2 - Lenny Bruce
The first man of shock comedy, talking about major topics of the 60's/70's............unfortunately, the world and the state were not ready for it and he would constantly be arrested at his own gigs for "profanity" and "vulgarity"...............and died of a drug overdose whilst mired in legal debts.
3 - Richard Pryor
The man, the legend..............nothing else to say...............the FUNest comedian ever, made anything and everything funny.
Thats all Im gonna number out of respect............as there arnt really any others that come close but here are some more =
Eddie Murphy - Great in his early days
Chris Rock - Love him, we all know how great he is so no point posting clips.
Some Great Brits now =
Robert Newman - Very smart man, gave up stand up very early to become political activist
Dave Allen - He was Australian actually but massively popular in England and not in the US
Theres so many more but those are the ones I can think of right now...........might come up with some more later.
My favorite all time is Richard Pryor, just can't beat him. My current favorite is Eddie Griffin, who was influenced a ton by Pryor who was actually a mentor to him. Dysfunktional family and voodoo child are funny. If you ever get the chance to see the Master P produced "Foolish" its funny as hell. I mean the movie is kinda pointless but the standup is hilarious.
I really like george Carlin as well, his routines are pretty amazing.
I love standup, so there are so many but these three are the top i can think of. I actually went to see Eddie Griffin a few weeks ago out here in San Jose. The dude was hilarious.
Great thread! I think I started a similar one a few months back, no big deal. I'm glad to see that some others here are into comedy.
Eddie Griffin is very funny, but isn't he a little young to have been a mentor to Pryor? maybe it was the other way around?
Richard Pryor, Steve Martin, and Eddie Murphy are some of favs from back in the day. Also Carlin. Someone who often gets overlooked but was a giant in the field is Rodney Dangerfield. I just think of his face and start to laugh.
Steven Wright is also very funny. Mitch Hedberg is one of the best ever.
Here's some Hedberg
John Witherspoon is also very funny (couldn't embed)
also Zach Galafianakis
firefox is not letting me embed for some reason...
yeah, that's what i said , pryor was a mentor to him and you can see it in Griffins performances. He actually calls him pops. Obviously, Pryor would be his mentor right?
my bad, I must've read the sentence backward...
I did kinda let the sentence run on. Just figured you guys would know what i mean... it's cool
Exactly man..............crass is great if its done by either an intelligent guy..................or an "old ass man" ...............its like when your Grandpa swears and and goes nuts or something, its just funny as hell.
Doug Stanhope is also very funny... he's crass and vile but smart and funny. I like his Doug Stanhope Go Home vid. He's a little bit in the Hicks mode but really is his own thing.
RIP Bernie Mac. You were way too young to die. You were a very funny guy. peace.
very sad, only 50 years old. I had a feelling he was close when they said he had pnuemonia and his publicist was denying that it was a grave situation. Too bad. I really liked his stuff.
