I'm still getting my degree, but I'm currently interning at a PR firm where I'll have a career after my schooling's over. The only change will be the title, from "intern" to "junior associate" once I graduate... and, hopefully, up the ladder from there.

Great thread. Cool learning about the "other lives" of our members.
Well, I have no interesting side of my job unless your a tech dork like me. I am a Data Warehouse Developer. Have been in the IT field for about 11 years now. My job mostly entail the extraction and manipulation of data from transactional ERP systems into a separate Data Warehouse environment. I also do some report writing on the data I have loaded. Is that THRILLING for you guys! _____________________________________________________

LOL!!!! I could have a very different tale to tell as a good family friend was a bigwig at Electronic Arts and I had a chance to get an entry level job in their EA Sports department but I passed because I had another offer at a lot more money. _____________________________________________________

Yeah, I've read that EA is not a bad place to be... but they don't pay much and deadlines are really a b*tch. Of course, it's not first hand experience. Might have been a pissed off employee... |

Yeah, never really looked into it very closely so I have no idea.
But while not exciting, I really do enjoy my work. And I already had my "fun" job when I ran the bar that all the warriors and other athletes and actors hung out at. That was FUN! Now it is time to be responsible and a roof over my children's head's! _____________________________________________________

MIgtht not be too much of a surprise, after SFSFSF's complaints about tests, but high school history teacher here.
Yes, yes, (insert joke about teens/crappy job/immaturity). |

You should get paid more. As for EA - As much as I loathe the company for their business practices I can say that their terrible treatment of employees has benefitted me. Because they overworked their engineers California passed a law last year saying people in our industry had to be paid overtime - so that worked out for me. |
|
No sh*t. It's not an easy job at all.
Yeah... and you're lucky you have that kind of regulation. There's nothing like that around here, so you have to work overtime on a regular basis if you want to keep your job... and, instead of paying you for it, you get one free day once you've done enough hours... |
|
Over here we have "work place agreements" which pretty much make things better for the employer and worse for employees, giving you less rate of pay if you do overtime. If you happen to be in a company where there is no WPA, you get time and a half (1.5 times your hourly rate) if you work over 8 hours on any given day and/or over 38 hours in a week ![]() ![]() migya make the ring fall on ya |
