This is purely a thread for the hip-hop fans of the board...

I'm not wondering who everybody's favorite artist is; I'm wondering who drops the sickest lines of all-time in their flows? I know a lotta people are probably gonna be saying 2Pac, KRS-1, or Biggie cause of the old-school, sentimental value... but I honestly think the true answer is Eminem.

Yeah, I'm from the Bay and I respect the new Hyphy wave that's putting us on the map, but you just gotta know who the King is. Take the song "Big Wheenie" off Em's last REAL album, for instance. He makes sh*t rhyme that SHOULDN'T rhyme. I'll give you an example:

It doesn't take a bunch of takes
Or me to stand here in this booth all day
For me to say the truth, ok?
You're droolin, you have tooth decay
Your mouth is open, you're disgusting
What the f*ck you eat for lunch
A bunch of sweets or something, what?
You munch a bunch of Crunch 'N Munch?
Your tooth is rotten to the gum
Your breath stinks, wanna chew some gum?
Yes I do sir, what am I on?
You sir are on chew syrum

Am I the only person who see's this fool rhyming every other syllable? Now, I admit, Em can't tell a story like 2Pac, he doesn't have the freestyle flow of someone like Jay-Z, and the songs he produces (Save for "Welcome 2 Detroit", which is an official banger) don't quite live up to his lyrics... but the man can flat out write rhymes. Anybody wanna drop a verse or two with some more sickness?

eminem has skills, but even in the example you provided, he raps about bad breath. wow, thats straight outta some elementary schoolyard.

you asked who's the best of all time? of course i havent been on this earth for an incredibly long time but i think talib kweli or immortal technique should stbe placed ahead of eminem based on their abilities to rhyme and the message they get across with each of their songs.

i threw eminem into the "trash" pile ever since his d-12 disaster.

hahah if this thread picks up, i might post a dis a wrote about a friend of mine. its not very good, so i dont know if i should share it...

I think my friend takes the prize
"Yo I go dumb up in dis bitch, kna mean
Do anything for money like a crackwhore fiend
Up in the party with some dummy ass weed
and some fine ass bitches that's alls I needs
I be spittin' deez rhymes like I ain't ever ate
and I'm hungry for the money like I ain't ever ate
now I'm high off dat grape and dat liquor got me drunk
All up in yo grill, beat you down like a punk
I got my gold chains, and my big ass jewels
I beat sucka emcees down like dey was fools
Never been no trick strictly gangsta all dizzay
Anybody step to me that mofo is gonna pizzay
Keep it real motherfukker I'm a straight up thug
I spend my days in the streets r-r-rolling on dubs
In my pimped out escalade ridin' on you suckas
If you's a bitch I gots to smack you up like my motha
YO!"
and the chorus is "burned like you touched the stove. NOOOOO!" or something like that.

I think he single handedly put what the vast majority of all rap is into one terrible cacophony.

As you can see I don't like rap very much.

but my two favorite lyricists are definately eminem and LB

I agree with drfrank. Eminen is trash. He can rhyme, but his rhymes are about... nothing relevant at all. F*ck that.

I really don't pay much attention to Hip Hop nowadays. It's declining really fast, since it became mainstream. Now it's just a way to get money for the "artist" and their companies. People don't really rhyme about nothing...

Not all hope is lost, tho. J-Live, Masta Ace (retired, I know, but just recently) or Talib Kweli not only rhyme. They do it while trying to convey a message. That's talent. Not at 2Pac level, but pretty good, nonetheless.

But rhyming about "bling bling", bad breath and that sh*t doesn't add anything to the table. I couldn't care less if the rhymes are good or not...

As far as Lyricist I pick KRS and NAS with honorable mention to Rakim and Jay Z, All of whom I have seen live :!: Best Live performance I've seen goes to Biggie (before he blew up at the Gavin convention in SF) and Busta and KRS shows are off the hook....

let's go way old school with the first:

Broken glass everywhere
People pissing on the stairs, you know they just
Dont care
I cant take the smell, I cant take the noise
Got no money to move out, I guess I got no choice
Rats in the front room, roaches in the back
Junkies in the alley with a baseball bat
I tried to get away, but I couldnt get far
Cause the man with the tow-truck repossessed my car
Chorus:
Dont push me, cause Im close to the edge
Im trying not to loose my head
Its like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder
How I keep from going under

Standing on the front stoop, hangin out the window
Watching all the cars go by, roaring as the breezes
Blow
Crazy lady, livin in a bag
Eating out of garbage piles, used to be a fag-hag
Search and test a tango, skips the life and then go
To search a prince to see the last of senses
Down at the peepshow, watching all the creeps
So she can tell the stories to the girls back home
She went to the city and got so so so ditty
She had to get a pimp, she couldnt make it on her
Own

Chorus:
Its like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder
How I keep from goin under

My brothers doing fast on my mothers t.v.
Says she watches to much, is just not healthy
All my children in the daytime, dallas at night
Cant even see the game or the sugar ray fight
Bill collectors they ring my phone
And scare my wife when Im not home
Got a bum education, double-digit inflation
Cant take the train to the job, theres a strike
At the station
Me on king kong standin on my back
Cant stop to turn around, broke my sacroiliac
Midrange, migraine, cancered membrane
Sometimes I think Im going insane, I swear I might
Hijack a plane!

Chorus:

My son said daddy I dont wanna go to school
Cause the teachers a jerk, he must think Im a
Fool
And all the kids smoke reefer, I think itd be
Cheaper
If I just got a job, learned to be a street sweeper
I dance to the beat, shuffle my feet
Wear a shirt and tie and run with the creeps
Cause its all about money, aint a damn thing
Funny
You got to have a con in this land of milk and
Honey
They push that girl in front of a train
Took her to a doctor, sowed the arm on again
Stabbed that man, right in his heart
Gave him a transplant before a brand new start
I cant walk through the park, cause its crazy
After the dark
Keep my hand on the gun, cause they got me on the
Run
I feel like an outlaw, broke my last fast jaw
Hear them say you want some more, livin on a
Seesaw

Chorus:

A child was born, with no state of mind
Blind to the ways of mankind
God is smiling on you but hes frowning too
Cause only God knows what you go through
You grow in the ghetto, living second rate
And your eyes will sing a song of deep hate
The places you play and where you stay
Looks like one great big alley way
Youll admire all the number book takers
Thugs, pimps, pushers and the big money makers
Driving big cars, spending twenties and tens
And you wanna grow up to be just like them
Smugglers, scrambles, burglars, gamblers
Pickpockets, peddlers and even pan-handlers
You say Im cool, Im no fool
But then you wind up dropping out of high school
Now youre unemployed, all null n void
Walking around like youre pretty boy floyd
Turned stickup kid, look what you done did
Got send up for a eight year bid
Now your man is took and youre a may tag
Spend the next two years as an undercover fag
Being used and abused, and served like hell
Till one day you was find hung dead in a cell
It was plain to see that your life was lost
You was cold and your body swung back and forth
But now your eyes sing the sad sad song
Of how you lived so fast and died so young
To Live is A Value Judgment - Albert Camus
3 reasons for living: Jazz, Hoops and women

President Barack Hussein Obama - America chose Hope over Fear

EM's alright. His delivery isn't the greatest and his flow leaves alot to be desired. But, since this thread is about best lyricist (not best rapper, big difference) I'll give em his due. Purely on a lyrics sandpoint, I'll go with Ras Kass...old Nas a close second.
23 hours of my day are spent wondering what to do with my hour of spare time...

I knew I had forgotten someone. Rakim was (still is) a f*cking monster.

I've never really been a big fan of Biggie, tho, and I can't give you a reason why. I guess I just don't dig his style.

I don't really agree... I think he has his share of freestyles that meander on about nothing, but songs like "Stan," "Cleaning Out My Closet" and "Who I Am"... hell, even "When I'm Gone" are all very well written. I admit, he always throws a couple random tracks onto his albums... but that shouldn't diminish what he's got when he comes with it.

yes, i agree. most of eminem's rhymes are about wack comedy stories or his daughter. he has flow but i cannot say he was one of the best. though i like your courage 32.

i'll agree with drfrank on immortal technique and talib kweli. they've put down the real rhymes and the flow of the rap game. "dance with the devil" was an interesting story.

i shall respect my bay roots with my favorite artist by choosing mac dre and too short. of course, you all should know about "blow the whistle" but my all time favorite too short song would be "shake that monkey." i love the beat of that song. as for mac dre, boss tycoon shall forever be my favorite song. but i'll have to pass on the illest flows in a rap song. i cant tag a line as a dope one cuz i have too many.

Too $hort. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

I was going to pick him as best lyricist, but he always sings about the same thing. Not that it's a bad thing to talk about.

Blackalicious also rules... from time to time. Usually, I love half of their albums, and hate the other half. But Gift of Gab is a hell of an MC.

Fans cheer for the paragraph Bill Lambier

He just rattles it off nice ( from J 5's song "the game")

I think E-40 needs to be mentioned on the list PURELY because of the volume of words he makes up that everyone starts saying. The dude's made his own language a Bay Area custom.

Also (I know this thread's about lyrics, but), Em's picking up his sh*t when it comes to making beats. Check this one out:

http://xxlmag.com/online/?p=2883

Kinda too club for me... but, nevertheless, I think it's one of the top 3 beats Eminem's ever made.

^ lol.. no hyphy artist could be mentioned or be an honarble mention. I'm from the bay, but hyphy is ****ing gay and keakdasneak invented hyphyvocab.

If the question is purely lyricist and not hit making...

Honorable Mentions: Rakim, Immortal Technique, Zion I, Heiroglyphics, Atmosphere, Lyrics Born, Psalms One, Pharcyde, Cheif Kamachi..
New. Stuff.
