Right and look how it turned out for LA. Im not sure there was a better deal for AI....regardless it doesnt make any sense to trade for less talent just because the guy is in the other conference. If the talent is even then yea why not, but if the talent is not even your just shooting yourself in the foot. I think the real reason Shaq and AI didnt get traded in their respective divisions is because other teams didnt want to make LA or Philly that much better. Especially with Kobe in LA. You trade KG or Dirk for Shaq and Lakers are a Dynasty. Think about it Lakers didnt turn down anything that much better than what Miami offered, same with Philly.

Again these superstars have a say in where they go and those places are usually limited to HUGE markets or places they can win right away.

The Lakers had the chance to trade him to Dallas for anyone not names Dirk... that means they could have traded him for Finley and Nash, and still decided to send him to Miami.

Not sure about which kind of offers Philly got (Gerald Green or Jefferson from Boston, according to them, although Boston denies it), but, other than Carter, I cannot remember one star being traded inside his own conference. It just doesn't happen.

Nobody wanted Finley at that contract. So it was basically Nash and a bloated contract. Miami was still a better if not even deal.

SuperStars dont get traded often. Vince is not a SuperStar. TMAC is not a superstar. They might be marketing wise, but when it comes to wins and losses they are average at best.

There are only 5 guys who by themselves make their teams 10-15 wins better. Duncan, Kobe, LeBron and um....maybe thats it. Nash has Stoudamire and Marion so hes running wih 2 All-Stars. You can replace Nash with any good point guard and the suns would be just as good.

Never get equal value in return for a superstar but in this case, JRich and Harrington are pretty good value. Put in perspective, the 76ers got Andrew Lang (mediocre Center at best), Tim Perry (streaky SF that was also mediocre at best) and Jeff Hornacek (productive but nothing more than 2nd or 3rd scorer on a team) for Charles Barkley in his prime. There are many other examples, like the recent Shaq to Heat trade that are similar.

As TMC said, the biggest thing is that a star is nearly always traded to the other conference and likely that would happen with KG.

Where did you hear of this potential trade? That would be a coup for TWolves to say the least and would make the idiot McHale look like GM of the decade! Doubt there is any legitimacy to this though

Finley was already a declining player and would likely have only given two productive seasons before falling to be an average player. The Lakers, in getting Butler and Odom, two very good players who are young as well and that is likely more than what Dallas would have given them.

As far as the Suns being as good as they are with another PG instead of Nash - NO WAY! Nash is unlike any other and runs that team perfectly!

Fisher played with 2 superstars and he never was anything like Nash, just no comparison.

Remember that before Nash arrived, Phoenix was finding it hard just to make it to the playoffs and then became a contender with him straight away
