MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Minnesota Timberwolves have reached an agreement to trade point guard Mike James to the Houston Rockets for power forward Juwan Howard.

James' agent, Bill Duffy, said Wednesday night the teams have been working for several weeks on a deal to move James after one disappointing season in Minnesota. Both the Wolves and the Rockets declined to comment about the trade Wednesday night.

The deal was first reported by TV station KRIV in Houston and the Houston Chronicle. James played 26 games for the Rockets in the 2004-05 season.

Duffy said he was told the deal would likely be completed on Thursday, and that it could have additional parts. Houston was bidding against Minnesota last summer when James was a prized free agent. The Wolves got him instead for a four-year, $23 million contract.

Interesting trade and could be good for both teams. Rockets could use someone else to be an option at PG as Alston in decent and not much more. Juwon would help the TWolves inside but I'm curious as to where he will play, as starting Center (as KG is the PF), starting Center (he is too small for that) or backup PF/C. The TWolves have alot of playeers that fill positions but none are worth much and I think Juwon will produce even less unless KG is traded. MJames may never have as good a season as he had two seasons ago in the Raptors but he played well the last time he was in the Rockets

Nice trade for Houston. Minny only gets some cap relief and more minutes for Foye. Typical McHale-ish trade.

Not quite. If he had thrown in an unprotected first in 2008 then it would be a typical McHale trade.

Mike James is nice fire power off the bench for Houston. He'll be under-utilized.

James is not a pass-first PG, which is what the Rockets need. That means they'll probably limit him to 25 MPG.

Not sure how much MJames will play in Houston. He is more of a scorer than anything else and really, Alston is more of a pure PG than he is. Foye definately is going to be a very good PG and I think McHale did the right thing in getting rid of James for a pretty decent PF. If McHale is smart, he'll go for Acie Law IF no Center that can make an impact is available. The TWolves should go for Splitter but they would likely not see him next season and they need to improve immediately if their dream of keeping Garnett happy can be fulfilled

He'll start above Alston. The Rockets love him, and he's certainly a better player than Alston. Not a true pg, but an improvement nonetheless.

A major improvement in the scoring department... and nothing else. James can't pass or handle the ball nearly as well as Alston.

Yeah, but they don't want him to do that. Just give the ball to T-Mac and Yao, shoot if you're open... shouldn't be that hard.

Not that easy. In order for the Rockets to become an elite team, which really they aren't but close, they need to have a distributor and have TMac and Yao focussed on scoring. Alston is pretty good at setting guys up but it looks like he'll never get better and MJames is not the answer. The Rockets are a team that could benefit in trading up a bit to get Law or pay some money to get Brevin Knight. They haven't really improved at all with this recent trade and will likely not make it past the 1st or 2nd round again next season
