j-rich for gerald wallace. we get rid of the log jam, get a forocious rebounder who would be awesome in the don nelson style. also provide some toughness and defense alongside biedrins. the cats get their 2 guard to play along side felton, with morrison, may, okafor. this would be a good trade for both teams i believe!

Uh... no. Wallace has an option to void his contract this summer, which he'll probably do. It would be a salary dump.

And the numbers don't work right now...

(btw, I think J-Rich is much better than Wallace... so they would have to add something else to the trade).

Gerald Wallace certainly gives more, especially defensively but the main thing with him is INJURY! He has been injuryriddled his entire career and this would be a huge risk of a trade!

I'd still go for something like Pietrus, Harrington, SJackson and future 1st rounder for Pierce and someone else, hopefully Al Jefferson. The Celts will not be able to resign all these young guys whose contracts are about to be up and Pierce must understand that the Celts are just not going anywhere. Throw in O'bryant or another bench man if needed but I don't think a real star of the team will be needed. The Celts must see the potential of Gerald Green and must understand that he, as well as young guys like Allen, need alot of playing time starting from next season! They could be in the running to sign a star over the next season or two as well if they dump some salary

Where does everybody get that idea?. The Celts are in a perfect position salary wise... They only have a dumb contract (Scalabrine), they have expirers in a few years (Raltliff's $11 million next season, Wally's $13 million the next one...) and lots of young players that end their contracts in 2-3 years (of which only Al Jefferson is worth re-signing).

They don't have to dump salary at all... quite the opposite, they'll have lots of cap space in two years (after maybe drafting Oden or Durant) and will be able to re-sign Jefferson and sign a max contract free agent without problems.

Ainge may have taken some risks with his picks, but their salary cap is just fine.

If Al Jefferson is the only one worth resigning (Gerald Green is actually #1  ), then Ainge will have to replace the 6 or 7 young guys whose contracts will be up over the next season or two! Guys like Gomes, Allen, West, Telfair, Jefferson and Perkins all fill positions for the Celts and to be resigned, more money will be spent or at the very least, more money will be spent on replaceing them. Not such a great situation, especially for a team that will have to sign another big name and contract very soon

Green will have to signed by 2009... and he should have proven his worth by that time. As of now, he has proved nothing other than "potential".

Jefferson is the tricky one. He still has two more years in his contract... so, with a couple of big seasons, he may be asking 8 to 10 million per season. That's high... but maybe worthy.

West and Gomes will be cheap to sign. None of them should be starting for an NBA team, although both can fill a role from the bench.

Allen (due to his character issues) and Telfair (due to his... well, "suckiness") will allowed to leave (if not traded).

Perkins is already signed til 2011 (to a great contract that never pays him over $4.5 million).

They may have to re-sign Rajon Rondo in four years... but only if he learns to shoot.

I don't foresee any problem with their cap, really.
