You make a good point there Player32. That holds true if a team is not really great at what they do well.

Last season's Suns?
You mean the team with Amare (1.6 blk, 1.0 stl), Marion (1.5 blk, 2.0 stl), and Nash (1.0 stl)? Pretty sure they had some good all-around defensive players, not simply one-dimensional shot-blockers. ![]() GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS DIE HARD ![]() ![]() |

Hey, you forgot to put the joke icons. Nash's defense is the WORST of any starting pg in the league. Defense is not stats. |
I beg to differ; Jason Williams is the worst defensive starting point guard in the league. Nash's defense is fine.
Everyone on this website rebelling against statistics is starting to go too far. Yes, there's more to the game than stats. But STATS DON'T LIE. Don't discount the best method we have for assessing a players value just because you don't know how characteristically he plays by reading numbers. Bottom line; stats cannot lie. ![]() GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS DIE HARD ![]() ![]() |

If stats don’t lie then fisher must really#######################################################################################################
U get my drift but stats do lie, for example Larry Huges is not the best defensive SG in the league, although his stats say so. Bruce Bowen doesn’t get 25% of the steals that Larry Huges does but he is probably twice the defender that Larry can ever hope to be. |
Well, Larry Hughes gets you steals on defense... I'd say that makes him one of the best defensive guards in the league, wouldn't you? Certainly not simply "half of what Bruce Bowen is"...
And, allow me to rephrase that, 99% of the time, statistics tell the story better than anything else. ![]() GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS DIE HARD ![]() ![]() |

No, the steals stat just shows that the player takes risks on defense, not that he's a good one on one defender.
It also shows his risks pay off, apparently...

Steal show that the player has good BBall IQ but they do not show his effort in man to man defense.
Effort and results are not always the same; you can give 110% and still be a horrible player. Statistics are more effective because you see results which, in the end, are more important. Who can provide results.

No, if you get 3 steals, but also allow 7 uncontested shots or easy baskets due to risking those steals, that's not paying off. |
No player in the league gives up 7 uncontested shots a game; not even a risker defender like Larry Hughes. At the worst, his antics would break even with his steals.
And, FYI, there's a statistic to Bruce Bowen, too. It's called "points allowed by opposing player." And he has an extremely low number on that. Stats never fail. Boo-yah. ![]() GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS DIE HARD ![]() ![]() |
OK then give me a stat on derrick fisher's cluchness.(if that is a word) |
The 3/7 was only an example, not that anyone does it...
And the stat you still fail to mention is fg% allowed. That's the only stats that reflects the impact of the defense on the game, and only somewhat. And that's bullsh*t about Bowen, he hacks opposing players consistently. Anyone is able to defend is those fouls aren't called. Stats don't cover this. |
True bowen does seem to get away with a lot. If the warriors could get away with what bowen does they would be one the top defenses in the league.
