I don't get why people are upset about Ellison not buying the team, Ownership has CHANGED!
But for the RECORD, id like to thank Cohan for NOT selling to Ellison, the highest bidder, and to Lacobs. Everyone was high on Ellison and his assumed path as owner that he will get a championship no matter what, we never know, we all assumed he would spend money because of his boat racing history. He's only been to see a Warriors game 1 time, and I dont see him giving a crap too much after he tries to win, but doesn't get there. You cant really just spend like crazy and have a 1 year turnaround to champions, it takes years of building and contending. He also might have looked to move the Team to SF or San Jose. even though I'm from SF, i believe it needs to be in the east bay.
Cohan if he did take the 2nd highest bid, must have liked how Lacobs has been a season holder of the warriors, how he knows for sure that they wont move the team.
We give alot of **** to Cohan because he doesn't spend on the Warriors to make them better, but honestly, its not like he is really the bad guy trying give an F U the team and the bay. He fails at ownership, but still i think he feels sorta sorry for the fans, and wanted an owner who CARED about the Warriors.
Great post. I totally agree. By the way, the Las Vegas rumor is totally bogus. Guber's company, Mandalay Entertainment, is in NO WAY affiliated with the Mandalay Bay hotel. It is just a similar name.
As much as I was rooting for Ellison, I have faith in these guys. They seem to know the in-and-outs of the sports entertainment very well and Lacob is a Bay Area guy(lives in Woodside/Portola Valley). Part of me feels like Ellison's ego could have been dangerous and there could have been some conflict down the road. I would rather have smart, saavy and passionate owners than a big pocketbook(although Ellison is a great competitor). The Knicks have spent a ton of money and have had 9 losing seasons, so money isn't necessarily EVERYTHING.
I'll be celebrating tonight for sure.
