Ok First and foremost this is in no way a panic thread I am just making an observation.

The warriors look to be heading for maybe the eigth seed in the playoffs. Looking at it truthfuly there is no way in hell were getting past the mavs or the suns they are just too good.

So heres the point: Would it be better for future teams if the warriors didnt make the playoffs again? I know we have waited twelve years and all of us are dying to taste the so called "second season". But is it in the warriors best interest? We look to be losing a few players over the offseason eg. pietrus, barnes, maybe azuibukie, etc. Also we're guaranteed a pick no higher than 14.

If we miss the playoffs at least we have a chance to moke up to maybe the top 10 picks and seeing as this is an incredibly stacked draft we could pick up someone really valuable.

So my question is: Is it worth one more year of waiting to make this team into a contender next year?

tenth pick is not worth not making the playoffs. It wouldn't make us into a contender. And we aren't likely to make the playoffs

That's right! Making the playoffs would be such an achievement that it would create confidence and excitement for the franchise that that itself will lead to future success! The thing right now is that the belief in making the playoffs is not there and just getting over the hump will make all the difference

It would be worthy tanking the season to get one of the top picks... but with our current record we'd have a 0.00025 chance of that happening.

Better try to make the playoffs.

I would say making the playoffs will open things up. The fans are hungry for it, the players and the coachign staff are hungry for a playoff appearance, we need to show the league that we are capable to do so. I think we already have enough young talents in this team.

I have to echo other comments. We'll end up with the 9-11th pick again, which is fairly useless, barring a steal like Monta. And like Pest said, our chances of making the playoffs are slim - we are about the same level as clippers, wolves, sacto and hornets, but we have the toughest schedule and cannot win on the road. That said, it would be fun to see the ws in the playoffs - I would put the chances at less than 20%, except none of the other teams are that impressive either.

Of course making the playoffs would be great for the team. Regardless of pick position, it would give the franchise a much needed boost and help to do away with a loser's mentality. Most of all, it will help do away with the Warriors being the NBA's punchline for the past decade - something the Clip were able to do with last year's appearence.

Playoffs over draft almost any day.

Yes, it gives the team a definite boost in confidence.

Yes, it breaks the non-playoff run of, what, forever?

There are two things that are somewhat overlooked as team value; playoff experience and league legitimacy. Almost every time that a team makes the playoffs for the first time in at least a couple of years, they get dropped in the playoffs in the first round. But, that team teand to make it back to the palyoff again the next year. An eight spot means the W's get stomped on by Dallas, but they will be in a much better position to make a palyoff run next year than if they fade out again this year. Exposure to the league, the fans and the commentators will give the W's some much-needed love. Maybe next year, the W's will have a more friendly schedual (fewer on the road back-to-backs, a slower pace that matches everyone else's) and a few calls their way.

Agreed. This IS the warriors cycle of futility the past dozen or so years. Not good enough to make the playoffs, not bad enough to get the 1st pick and we picked crappy the last time we got the 1st pick.

This is why the warriors need to have a successful road stretch here. Heart is one thing to show promise the next season, but things change in the 5months from the last finals game played to the start of the next regular season. We are not bad, but not good either. we are painfully mediocre. It the most frustrating thing about the franchise these past few years.
